Tim Cook Backs Privacy, Crypto, Freedom at EPIC Awards Dinner
Apple CEO Tim Cook gave an impassioned speech at the 2015 EPIC Champions of Freedom Award dinner. Cook said the erosion of privacy represents a threat to the American way of life. "We believe that people have a fundamental right to privacy. The American people demands it, the constitution demands it, morality demands it." Cook also opposed government efforts to weaken encryption. "So let me be crystal clear -- weakening encryption, or taking it away, harms good people that are using it for the right reasons. And ultimately, I believe it has a chilling effect on our First Amendment rights and undermines our country's founding principles."
