House Narrowly Defeats Bill to End NSA Domestic Surveillance Program
In a surprisingly close vote, the House of Representatives voted 217 to 205 not to suspend funding for the controversial NSA program that has resulted in the collection of all call records of all American telephone customers. The outcome followed intense lobbying by the Administration and leaders of the intelligence community. The measure was introduced by Justin Amash (R-MI) and John Conyers (D-MI). EPIC has filed a petition with the US Supreme Court, charging that the program violates section 215 of the Patriot Act. A decision by the Court is expected in early October.
